Employment Intensive Infrastructure Programme in Lebanon- Phase V
The EIIP Phase V (2023-2025) is built on the success and lessons learnt from the previous phases in delivering green works and just transition towards sustainable infrastructure assets through employment intensive approaches. The project will continue to provide decent short-term employment to the displaced Syrian population and the vulnerable Lebanese host community members, whilst promoting opportunities for women and Persons with Disability. Throughout the course of Phase V, emphasis will be given on strengthening the support to vulnerable individuals and organizations for training and capacity building. Additionally, the project will aim to increase the target for the proportion of women involved, including a dedicated pre-project training component for skills in the construction and green works for women and an assessment for addressing the current limitations on targeting PWD in the construction and green works sector. This will increase the employability of those workers and provide a more sustainable result to the project. The portfolio will continue to cover many themes, from building repair and rehabilitation, road maintenance, slope protection, crash barriers, agricultural road reconstruction, sidewalk enhancements and support for agricultural productivity. Phase V of the EIIP Lebanon builds on the lessons learned of previous phases focusing on improving livelihoods and decent employment creation for Lebanese host community members and Syrian refugees through the construction and maintenance of locally prioritised infrastructure, agricultural and environmental works, leveraging the role of ILO within the Ministry of Labour and in the LCRP livelihoods sector coordination, and benefiting from the wealth of experience provided by ILO global and regional specialists in disability, gender, skills training and labour law etc.
