Advancing formalization for decent jobs in Bangladesh
This intervention aims to facilitate transition to formalization in Bangladesh by enhancing the capacity of ILO tripartite constituents, improving regulatory frameworks, and developing enabling conditions for enterprise formalization. It fits within ongoing major policy reforms in the country and builds on the Government’s ambition to formalize the economy enshrined in the National Industrial Policy 2022. The intervention targets the local government authorities, employer and business membership organizations (EBMOs) and workers’ organizations in Bangladesh. The ultimate beneficiaries are 500 entrepreneurs and their workers in Chittagong, Sylhet and Dhaka. The intervention is implemented in partnership with the SME Foundation, Workers’ Resource Center, City Corporation, Union Parishad and other relevant business membership organizations. The expected results include an expanded knowledge base on barriers and opportunities to formalization, the adoption of an integrated strategy for formalization developed in consultation with the social partners constituents and strengthened institutional capacity of government institutions and EBMOs to support informal enterprises in their formalization processes.
