Accelerate the Elimination of Child Labour, Improving Working Conditions and Empowering Families in Jasmine Supply Chain in Egypt
The project is funded by the Fair Labour Association and aims to reduce/eliminate child labour in Jasmine picking through child protection measures and improve working conditions in the Jasmine supply chain in Egypt. This will be achieved through improving economic resilience of adult workers and small farmers to earn living wages and increasing access to education opportunities for at-risk children have increased access and protecting them from exploitation. In addition, improving Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work conditions along the jasmine supply chain and enhance effective advocacy and stakeholder engagement to combat child labour and support workers' rights. The project is implemented in Gharbia Governorate and blends both area-based approach and a supply chain approach to ensure tangible impact in targeted districts/villages and ensure that children will not be engaged in other supply chains if being withdrawn from the Jasmine's. The project targets 1,200 farmers (parents) and approximately 2,500 children at risk or already engaged in child labour. The project devotes substantial efforts to identify, document, share, and promote the upscale of good practices in addressing child labour and identifying innovative mechanisms. Linkages and synergies with existing government programmes and schemes, such as those in agriculture and child protection, is actively sought and reinforced to sustain improved facilities, tools, and achieved results.
