Apoyando cadenas agricolas verdes y sostenibles en Guatemala (VER CRECER)

Summary of the Action Component 1 of the Action "Supporting Inclusive Economic Development in Guatemala," funded under the Neighbourhood, Development, and International Cooperation Instrument (NDICI-Global Europe), aims to bolster inclusive economic growth in Guatemala, fostering the creation of decent jobs through innovation and digitalization. This DoA outlines an Action designed to support the implementation of component 1, which aims to increase the uptake of enterprises in Guatemala, including micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), of internationally agreed principles on Responsible Business Conduct (RBC) considering EU regulatory and policy developments on RBC, particularly the EU Green Deal. This strategic alignment ensures that the Action not only promotes sustainable business practices but also prepares Guatemalan enterprises to meet environmental and social governance standards taking into account regulatory and policy developments on RBC and due diligence. Focused on five key value chains—coffee, cocoa, palm oil, sugar, and wood and wood products—Component 1 aims to promote trade and sustainable development principles, particularly contributing to the implementation of EU standards on deforestation. These standards not only aim to protect the environment but also encompass specific mandates on human rights, including labour rights and the rights of indigenous peoples, thereby ensuring a comprehensive approach of sustainable trade practices.
