Strengthening Gender-Sensitivity of the TRANSFORM Arab Curriculum
There is a need to strengthen social protection systems in MENA to comprehensively address gendered risks over the lifecycle and provide support in situations of poverty, vulnerability or crisis. The TRANSFORM-Arab initiative, that builds the capacity of government officials, policy makers and members of civil society, is a good avenue to strengthen gender responsiveness of social protection systems in MENA. Following the objectives of the project, there are two proposed actions, review and strengthen contextualised content on gender within the five-day introductory module on social protection and incorporate contextualised content on gender within the new module on Integrated Social Protection. The deliverables are to understand and apply gender concepts, identify risks women and girls in MENA face with a focus on specific life-cycle transitions and risks and, the diversity of women’s experiences which are often made worse by multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination, design and implement programmes that can mitigate the gender specific risks and vulnerabilities, and learn how to monitor and evaluate the gender impact of social protection programmes and policies.
