Accelerating Deployment and Adoption of Renewable Energy Technologies in Zambia.

The project is contributing towards enhancing energy access and support the energy transition in Zambia's Eastern Province by fostering the growth of inclusive clean energy enterprises. Currently, these enterprises are inadequate, underdeveloped, and often economically unsustainable. The project is prioritizing the sustainable growth of viable energy enterprises, improving the accessibility, variety, quality, appropriateness, and cost efficiency of energy products and services in both rural and peri-urban areas. A key focus of this intervention is addressing capacity gaps among energy Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to enhance their commercial viability and capacity to support the renewable energy end-users. This is being achieved by facilitating access to blended financing and providing hands-on, in-depth business development advice and coaching. The project is further conducting formative assessment to inform intervention design and performance indicators for leveraging earnings from the carbon market to enhance the nexus between carbon credit and social outcomes, specifically nutrition. Further, the Digital Measuring Reporting and Verification (DMRV) is supporting the monitoring both environmental and social outcomes of carbon reductions and therefore contributing to Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (ITMOs) design. This initiative is contributing to inclusive, sustainable economic development and support Zambia's ambition to achieve universal access to clean energy by 2030 and reduce carbon emissions. The intervention is aligned with Zambia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and the objectives of the National Green Growth Strategy 2024-2030.
