Supporting youth employment and investments in skills in developing countries
The youth employment challenge is compounded by knowledge gaps, fragmented evidence, and a shortage of user-friendly, action-oriented resources to boost youth skills and employment opportunities. In this context, the project, implemented by the International Labour Organization (ILO) in partnership with the European Commission (EC), aims to strengthen high-quality evidence and knowledge while fostering a network of expertise in the formulation and implementation of effective job creation and skills development strategies for youth in Asia and Africa. The project contributes to the operationalization of the Commission’s Communication on Decent Work Worldwide, echoing the commitment and opportunities to promote decent jobs for youth in the region and across the globe. Furthermore, the project builds on the lessons learned from the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM)’s action-driven methodology to effectively connect policies with on-the-ground initiatives, and leverages the YouthForesight Knowledge Facility as a platform of dissemination and collaboration on youth employment. The project maps knowledge and networks for promoting effective youth employment strategies, enhance local stakeholders' capacity - with a focus on Asia and Africa, facilitate communities of practice, promote knowledge sharing and collaboration across countries, and support the development of interventions that create skilling and employment opportunities for youth, including on integrating young people in the labour markets to ease the migration pressure.
