Responsible and Inclusive Supply Chains for Migrant Workers in Thailand (RISC - Migrant)

The Responsible and Inclusive Supply Chains for Migrant Workers in Thailand (RISC-Migrant) project provides immediate response and support to address critical gaps in social and labour protection and employment in Thailand, particularly addressing the increasing population of migrant workers.Building on the achievements of the existing ILO-Japan Programme, which focuses on advancing decent work and sustainable supply chains in Asia, this initiative targets urgent needs arising from migrant workers in Thailand, especially those from Myanmar. These vulnerable workers face heightened risks of a decent work deficit, lack of coverage in social protection, and lack of career prospects in their communities. Addressing these immediate challenges through coordinated social protection measures, skills development programs, and fostering responsible business conduct is essential to safeguarding the rights and livelihoods of migrant workers and ensuring stability in key economic sectors. The project deploys immediate response measures to promote the extension of social protection coverage for migrant workers, skills development, and to foster responsible business conduct in sectors where a significant proportion of migrants are employed. By promoting responsible business conduct within these sectors, the project ensures both that employers are complying with existing legal frameworks and that migrant workers are able to secure their rights to decent work and social protection, as well as opportunities for skills development and lifelong learning. (i) Outcome 1: Advanced access to social protection for migrant workers in Thailand; (ii) Outcome 2: More migrant workers obtain essential employable skills for career initiation in the Thai economy; (iii) Outcome 3: Responsible business conduct is better penetrated among workers and enterprises which employ migrant workers.
