Improving workplace productivity and working conditions through social dialogue and collective bargaining in garment and hospitality sectors in Mongolia

The project 'Improving workplace productivity and working conditions through social dialogue and collective bargaining in garment and hospitality sectors' supports social partners at workplace to improve productivity and working conditions through social dialogue at sectoral and workplace levels. The project does so by working with the garment sector specialized in cashmere products and the hospitality sector. Both sectors have future potential for expansion and for more and better jobs, if they can make continuous improvement to their workplace management. The garment sector in Mongolia is relatively well organized by trade unions with a new sectoral collective agreement signed in December 2024, while union density is low in the hospitality sector. Considering the specificities of each sector, the ILO will identify the best approach for each sector to develop project activities and results. Once good practices can be developed through the pilot interventions, the good practices will be summed up as a guide for workplace social dialogue for better productivity and working conditions, which will be promoted across different industries. The project's expected results are: Outcome 1: Capacity of social dialogue, including collective bargaining, for high productivity and better working conditions strengthened at enterprise and sectoral level Outcome 2: Social dialogue for higher productivity and better working conditions established and practised at the workplace in selected sectors and enterprises Outcome 3: Best practices shared and advocated for broader adoption and application.
