Durable and safe socioeconomic integration of people on the move in Mexico
This project builds the capacities of key actors to promote and secure the socioeconomic integration of people on the move in Mexico at the federal level and in seven intervention states with UN acting in the country, namely Baja California (ILO and UNDP), Chiapas and Mexico City (ILO and UNHCR), Chihuahua (IOM), Jalisco and Nuevo Leon (IOM and UNDP) and Tabasco (UNHCR). The geographic scope of the project targets states from both Northern and Southern borders of Mexico, as well as states with strong relevance to the reception and socioeconomic integration of people on the move. The partner UN agencies involved have existing programming in these locations, which allow for the project to start immediately and to build on and scale up ongoing activities. In States where more than one agency have interventions, coherence and synergy between agencies and coordination with key actors are ensured, and the added benefits of agency-specific expertise and methodologies are maximized. The project proposes a comprehensive approach focusing on 1) enabling factors - Federal, state, and local authorities in the Government of Mexico design legislation and policies in favor of the socioeconomic integration of people on the move in Mexico and implement concrete, rights-based and gender-sensitive actions to facilitate access to regular pathways; 2) access to jobs and labour mobility - the Government of Mexico, the private sector, employers, unions, and other key stakeholders facilitate access to decent, formal employment opportunities for people on the move, including for groups in vulnerable situations (i.e., women, youth); 3) multisectoral social protection and social cohesion - governmental and non-governmental actors ensure access to social protection services and promote social cohesion from a sustainable development perspective, in collaboration with people on the move and host communities.
