Promoting Decent Work for Migrant Care Workers (MigrantCare Project).
The MigrantCare Project seeks to promote decent work for Indian migrant care workers—especially women—through strengthened policy frameworks, fair recruitment, improved social protection, and skills recognition. As global demand for care workers rises, the project ensures that migration pathways are safe, equitable, and gender-responsive. Key activities include evidence generation, capacity building for government and recruitment agencies, updated pre-departure tools, and cross-border cooperation between trade unions and employer organizations. The project also supports policy recommendations on social protection and skills comparability for care workers. Aligned with India’s UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework and SDG Targets 5.4, 8.8, and 10.7, the initiative enhances institutional capacities and ultimately improve the lives of migrant care workers by ensuring their rights, recognition, and resilience.
