Improving Labour Governance and Decent Work in Papua New Guinea
With a largely rural population dependent on subsistence agriculture and vulnerable to climate shocks, PNG struggles with poor labour governance, limited institutional capacity, and inadequate data systems. The ILO is supporting efforts to modernize and enforce labour laws, strengthen labour inspection and dispute resolution mechanisms, improve occupational safety and health frameworks, and enhance wage-setting practices. The project also prioritizes the development of reliable labour market data systems and the promotion of effective social dialogue among government, employers, and workers to ensure evidence-based policymaking and inclusive governance.
