From inclusion to equity- accelerating CRPD implementation and disability inclusive SDGs to advance the rights and equitable opportunities of all persons with disabilities in Fiji.
This programme enhances the rights and opportunities of persons with disabilities in Fiji, who often experience poverty, unemployment, and stigma. It emphasizes accountability, equality, budgeting, and inclusive service delivery while incorporating disability considerations into national humanitarian efforts, thereby benefiting persons with disabilities and their communities. To tackle these challenges, the programme adopts a multi-stakeholder approach that emphasizes the meaningful involvement of Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and strengthens national monitoring mechanisms. By fostering collaboration among stakeholders, the initiative seeks to create a more inclusive framework that effectively represents the voices and needs of persons with disabilities. The approach encompasses two main strategies: first, by leveraging established stakeholder coordination mechanisms, such as the OPD sub-working group and Technical Reference Group, while expanding to involve additional relevant stakeholders from government and OPDs; second, by engaging with existing multi-sector Advisory Committees of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD). Through these efforts, the programme allocates necessary resources to address the issues identified, thereby facilitating systemic reforms and enhancing the capacity of OPDs. The ultimate goal is to accelerate the implementation of CRPD and promote inclusive Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Fiji.
