Youth Empowerment and Integration in Host Communities (Y4F) Phase II
The MENA region is grappling with an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, marked by extensive forced displacement due to armed conflicts, regional rivalries, and persistent governance deficiencies. Egypt, a pivotal destination and transit country for forcibly displaced persons (FDPs) and migrants, is profoundly affected by these crises, particularly with substantial influxes from Sudan and Syria. In response to these pressing issues, the Youth Empowerment and Integration in Host Communities (Y4F) Phase II project, led by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), enhances livelihood opportunities and strengthens the socio-economic resilience of young migrants, FDPs, and Egyptian youth as a mean of reducing protection risks in more cohesive and inclusive host communities. Building on the successes of Phase I, this initiative improves employability skills, career prospects, and the provision of child protection services and inclusive youth centers through targeted interventions, capacity building, and policy advocacy, following a comprehensive approach respectful of human rights. The Youth Empowerment and Integration in Host Communities (Y4F) Phase II project has three core objectives: 1) to enhance skills and employability of young migrants, FDPs, and Egyptian youth, 2) to increase access to inclusive and gender responsive services that foster social cohesion and protection by strengthening the capacity of youth centers and civil society organizations to offer these services, and 3) to increase awareness among key stakeholders about the importance of integrating young FDPs, migrants, and Egyptians into the labor market and essential services, through partnership and stakeholders engagement. The project will engage in advocacy efforts to influence policy changes that support the socio-economic integration of these populations. The initiative institutionalizes successful interventions through the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) and scales up models that have proven effective.
