Statutory Valuation of the National Health Insurance Scheme and capacity building on ILO/HEALTH model

The ILO is supporting the Zambia National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) to undertake an actuarial valuation. This actuarial valuation exercise progressed with the active participation of the NHIMA staff to build their actuarial capacity. The actuarial valuation is being undertaken using the ILO Universal Social Protection Department’s ILO/HEALTH actuarial tool, an online quantitative model. In addition, the project is promoting equitable access to health care services, as well as sustainable national social security systems. It also aligned with ILO program and budget to increase the capacity of Member States to strengthen social protection systems and ensure sustainable and adequate financing and sound governance. The project is consistent with the Zambia Decent Work Country Program (DWCP) ensuring alignment with national priorities. Key project outputs include the improved actuarial capacity of NHIMA officials, and delivery of the actuarial valuation report. The project is contributing towards increasing the coverage of the National Health Insurance Scheme and securing its medium-term financial sustainability.
