Nepal Cares: Accelerating Decent Work and Social Protection for Women (M-GA)
This project focuses on strengthening policy frameworks that promote coherence and integration across employment, productivity, and social protection, applying an integrated approach to the care sector as a strategic driver of gender equality. Recognized in Nepal’s 16th Plan as a high-potential sector for job creation, the care economy also features prominently in the policy mapping underpinning Nepal’s engagement in the Global Accelerator (GA) and the development of its national roadmap. The project advances integrated policymaking by supporting the finalization, dissemination, and effective implementation of the National Integrated Care Policy. By aligning care sector development with labour market and social protection strategies, the initiative unlocks decent work opportunities while addressing structural gender inequalities embedded in unpaid and underpaid care work. The outcome is increased access to more and better employment and social protection for vulnerable populations - particularly women, youth, and informal workers. Through targeted technical assistance, the project supports the design and piloting of sustainable, accessible, affordable, and high-quality care models that are scalable and generate decent work, while actively challenging discriminatory gender norms and contributing to inclusive and equitable economic growth in Nepal.
