Enhancement of the human and labour rights of workers from vulnerable and marginalized groups under unacceptable forms of work in Thailand, following the aftermath of the Myanmar earthquake

This project strengthens the protection of human and labour rights of vulnerable and marginalized workers in Thailand who are exposed to unacceptable forms of work, particularly in the context of overlapping humanitarian, economic and climate-related crises. Women workers, migrant workers and working children are especially at risk of exploitation, discrimination, violence and harassment, and exclusion from social protection. The project applies a human-centred approach that recognizes vulnerable workers as rights-holders and focuses on improving access to labour rights, social protection, non-discriminatory employment and safe working conditions. It places particular emphasis on gender equality, maternity protection, the prevention of child labour, and the protection of migrant workers, in line with national labour legislation and international labour standards. Key interventions include awareness-raising and capacity-building activities that improve workers’ understanding of their rights and available labour protections, including maternity protection, fair recruitment practices and protection from violence and harassment. The project also strengthens social dialogue by supporting inclusive tripartite platforms that bring together government institutions, employers, workers’ organizations and community representatives to address labour protection challenges affecting vulnerable groups. Through these interventions, the project contributes to improved labour rights compliance, strengthened grievance and dialogue mechanisms, and greater inclusion of vulnerable workers in the world of work. It also supports responsible business practices and supply-chain resilience by reducing labour-related risks and promoting decent work in key sectors of the Thai economy.
