ILO Programme on Living Wages – Proposal for Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), with focus on raising awareness and understanding of the concept of the living wage
Building on the Tripartite agreement reached during the Meeting of experts on wage policies, including living wages, in 2024 and endorsed by the ILO Governing Body at its 350th Session, this project contributes to the ILO Programme on Living Wages. The Programme rests on two pillars: the first supports the development of living wages estimates in line with ILO principles and the development of a global wage data hub, including also economic factors; the second supports the operationalization of living wages and engages with living wage and income initiatives to promote alignment with ILO living wage principles. In this framework, this project seeks to raise awareness and understanding of the living wage concept among Programme stakeholders to promote their alignment with the Tripartite agreement. It thereby creates an enabling environment for informed social dialogue and policy engagement on wage adequacy, promoting living wage considerations in national wage-setting mechanisms and responsible business conduct, thus contributing to the improvement of living standards for workers and their families to enhance social justice and economic resilience.
