Responsible, Inclusive & Sustainable Nickel Supply Chains in Asia
Funded by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, this project supports more responsible, inclusive and sustainable nickel supply chains in Indonesia and the Philippines, whilst also engaging key national and international actors to strengthen collaborative action on responsible business conduct, human rights due diligence, and decent work in the supply chain. Working with state authorities, employers’ and workers’ organizations, and enterprises, the project: builds a shared evidence base on labour risks and governance gaps in nickel mining and processing; strengthens practical approaches to labour governance, especially inspection, compliance and enforcement; and promotes effective social dialogue, credible worker voice and access to remedy, and practical industry guidance that helps firms translate due diligence and labour standards into day-to-day practice. The project is designed as a strategic “platform” that co-creates tools, guidance and improvement pathways that can be used and scaled by constituents and industry actors beyond the project period, contributing to more responsible business practices, better decent work outcomes, and more sustainable critical-minerals supply chains.
