Private Sector Development in Liberia (PSD Liberia)

The Private Sector Development (PSD) project in Liberia is implemented by Expertise France (EF) and the International Labour Organization (ILO) with funding support from the European Union (EU). Within the framework of the project, ILO’s component of work targets supporting national efforts on expanding access to decent work and skills development, with particular attention to persons with disabilities, women, and youth. ILO further works to improve the national TVET system, strengthening institutional capacities to reduce barriers that limit participation in the labour market. In this context, the project supports the introduction and expansion of assistive technologies, promoting greater inclusion and autonomy for persons with disabilities as they access employment opportunities. As a catalytic initiative that works towards transforming the private sector landscape in Liberia, the project works closely with a wide array of stakeholders, including government institutions, employers and workers representatives, as well as other relevant actors to develop and reinforce policy and legal frameworks in line with international labour standards, enhance social dialogue mechanisms, and support the establishment of a National Employment Observatory to promote evidence-based decision making. These efforts are complemented by targeted support to strengthen skills ecosystems across key value chains, working in close coordination with Expertise France. Disability and gender considerations form a cornerstone of the project implementation as the project will further strengthen engagement in this area, while scaling up previous support in the development and application of standards and tools that facilitates the effectiveness of the private sector in Liberia, anchored on social dialogue principles.
