Institutional Strengthening and Responsible Practices in Labor Migration in the Dominican Republic
The project strengthens labour migration governance in the Dominican Republic through coordinated action among public institutions, employers’ organizations, trade unions, and child protection entities. It responds to persistent challenges such as limited regular labour migration pathways for low- and medium-skilled workers, high informality in key sectors, and barriers that prevent migrants from accessing services, decent work, and rights protection. To address these gaps, the project improves the technical capacities of labour and migration institutions, promotes the use of data and analysis for decision-making, advances responsible business practices and fair recruitment, and reinforces the role of workers’ organizations in protecting migrant workers’ rights. It also strengthens protection systems for children and adolescents on the move by training frontline personnel and supporting the implementation of national protocols for identification, care, and protection. The intervention integrates human rights, gender equality, and inclusion approaches, and aligns with national strategies and United Nations cooperation frameworks to ensure institutional sustainability and continuity of results.
