Comments and Observations: | Govt. of Bahrain (28 July 2020) We are in discussions daily with the vessel owner, crew members, concerned embassies/agencies. The owner is in contact with the P&I insurers and is attempting to claim some funding in order to cover the unpaid crew salaries but there has been issues with regards to the MLC (Bahrain did not sign the MLC 2006)
The owner’s company has halted operations for the past 3 months in order to ensure enough funding to keep the vessel and crew supplied with essentials as the owner is going through financial difficulties since the projects he was involved in have all been delayed along with majority of the owner’s payments due to COVID-19.
It is our priority to ensure the safety of the crew members at this time, and we are working with all concerned parties to expedite the repatriation of the crew at the earliest. As of now, the crew members have all been booked flights between the 5th-9th August. The owner is seeking alternate means for payment of crew salaries, but this will take time.
ITF (25 September 2020) Crew left the vessel without wages.
ITF (19 October 2020) Crew left the vessel without wages, but ITF are still chasing the owners for the owed wages. Outstanding renumeration is USD 214,335. ITF provided pocket money for the repatriation.
ITF (28 January 2021) All crew have been repatriated but the crew have not yet been paid.
ITF (5 March 2021) All crew have been repatriated. We have seen no documentary evidence that the outstanding wages have been paid.
