Owners have forcibly removed crew who were seeking legal advice to obtain outstanding wages and repatriation. ITF supplied bond for ship¿s arrest, however courts rejected jurisdiction over foreign flagged vessel. Attempts will be made to bring a case against the owner in the Ukraine. ITF inspectors are tracking the ship as it visits other ports with new crew.

UPDATE: Since the problems reported by the ITF occurred it is noted that the vessel has been twice detained by Port State Control - in Ravenna, Italy for 18 days with 25 deficiencies and in Eleusis, Greece for 5 days with 14 deficiencies.

This vessel changed name to Balcar on 31 March 2007. Flag now seems to be Bolivian. The vessel has been operating in the Black Sea since the beginning of 2006. In September this year the ITF received a call from one of the current crew complaining of unpaid wages of the 11 Ukrainian seafarers on board, no food and little water. Ship manager claimed that crew would be repatriated and that food and water problems would be resolved, however it was not possible to verify this due to loss of contact with crew.
The ship manager and operator is Petunia Shipping Srl, Italy, the DOC company is GM Trading & Chartering and the registered owner is Aileen Corporation, Panama.
