The abandoned crew members reached a settlement with the employer and received basic wages for the unpaid period and an amount of compensation for injuries caused.

This case is very concerning given the additional circumstances reported by the crew. The shipowner in China and the company which signed the employment agreements, based in Korea, have denied any problem exists.
The POEA has suspended the manning agent in the Philippines until the case is resolved.

It should be noted that only the 16 Filipino crew members had complained of abandonment (non-payment of wages and withholding of food).
