- Regarding activities on legal and policy reforms, the Government of Bangladesh in 2019 has made the following progress:
1) The mandatory life and disability insurance for Migrant workers has been adopted by the GoB in December 2019
2) The recruitment licence rule has been endorsed by legislative ministry in December 2019
3) The classification rule has been finalised through round of consultation in December 2019.
The ILO has been providing technical support for the development of these three pieces of legislation.
In addition the GoB has adopted in September 2019 the Palermo Protocol. Hence there is a need to continue work on legal and policy reforms to make all relevant acts, rules, policies and international commitments integrated.
In addition to ensure alignment with the 8th FYP, the ILO is conducting a consultancy to develop the position paper for the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Oversea Employment for the next 8th FYP. It is coming as a special request from the MoEWOE to the ILO.

- 1) Continue activities on legal and policy reform related to labour migration issues as it is no less relevant now than it was at the inception of the Migration Policy project. Make also sure there is clear alignment between the interventions in a possible next phase and the developing priorities of the forthcoming GoB’s 8th Five-Year plan.
