Method of data collection
Prices for most items are collected each month by agents or by
mail questionnaire, from about 60 retail outlets and service
establishments or from official documentation for those prices fixed
by government authorities. In addition, certain food items are
priced, through direct buying by agents on the 5th, 15th and
25th of each month in three public markets.
Housing
Rent quotations are obtained from reports submitted by a large real
estate company.

Seasonal items
Seasonal fluctuations in the prices of certain fruits are taken into
account by pricing the items only when they are in season; during the

Computation
The index is computed according to the Laspeyres formula as a
weighted arithmetic average with fixed base, using weights corresponding
