The index is compiled monthly and relates to all private
households throughout the country.

Source of weights
The weights and selected items were derived from a household
expenditure survey conducted in 1982 among a random sample of 232
households representative of all households.

Prices are collected in Roseau by agents during the third week of
each month from three stores, one market and service
establishments.
Housing
Rent quotations are obtained each month for one type of dwelling with
two bedrooms.

No account is taken of seasonal fluctuations in prices.
Computation
The index is computed according to the Laspeyres formula as a
weighted arithmetic average with fixed base, using weights
corresponding to the base period.
Other information
A new series (base July 1994 = 100) is now computed but the relevant
methodological information was not available in the ILO at the time the
present volume was published.
