The index is compiled monthly and covers African families in
Libreville in which the head of the household is a wage earner or
salaried employee (public or private sector, including domestic
services).

June 1975 = 100.
Source of weights
The weights and selected items were derived from a household expenditure
survey conducted during 1968-69 in Libreville among 9,942 African
families of which the head of the household was a wage earner or
salaried employee in the public or private sector, including domestic
services.

Household consumption expenditure
Consumption expenditure for the purpose of the index comprises all
goods and services purchased for consumption by the index population.
It excludes income tax, gifts and charities, loans and repayments,
purchase of house and dowries.
Method of data collection
Prices are collected by agents, during the second half of each
month, from selected markets, retail shops and other commercial
outlets.
The prices used in the index are the retail prices actually paid by
consumers.

Seasonal fluctuations in prices are not taken into account in the index.
Computation
The index is computed according to the Laspeyres formula as a
weighted arithmetic average with fixed base, using weights corresponding
to 1968-69.
