Method of data collection
Prices are collected on the 3rd, 9th, 21st and 27th of each month
from ten main markets in Baghdad and two main markets in other
urban centres.
Housing
Rent quotations are obtained in March and September each year
from 143 rented houses in Baghdad and 208 rented houses in the
other governorates.

Computation
The index is computed according to the Laspeyres formula as a
weighted arithmetic average with fixed base, using weights
corresponding to 1971-72.
Other information
A new series (base 1988 = 100) is now computed but the relevant
methodological information was not available in the ILO at the time the
present volume was published.
