The index is compiled monthly and relates to households with at
least four members, in Bamako.

Source of weights
The weights were estimated from a pilot household expenditure
survey conducted in March 1963 in Bamako among households with at
least four members and from comparisons of weights used in the
compilation of indices for other African countries with similar
consumption patterns.

Computation
The index is computed according to the Laspeyres formula as a
weighted arithmetic average with fixed base, using weights
corresponding to March 1963.
Other information
Since 1988, a National Consumer Price Index (base July 1986 - June
1987 = 100) has been computed, covering the towns of Kayes, Sikasso and
Bamako. This series is published in the Year Book
and
Bulletin of Labour Statistics
, but the relevant methodological
information was not available in the ILO at the time the present volume
was published.
