History of the survey
Every five years, the Annual Census of Industrial Production is replaced
by the Census of Economic Activities, which covers all non-agricultural
economic activities, except those carried out within households,
including mobile units such as hawkers and traxi-drivers. Excluded are
concealed and illicit activities. The Census covers all persons
engaged, including foreign workers, and all units (establishments or
owners or proprietors of mobile units), irrespective of size.
The Census provides data on employment and labour cost; inputs of
goods and services; output and capital formation. In the 1992 Census,
data have been collected on the normal number of days and hours during
which activity is carried out.
All large establishments are covered on a complete enumeration basis.
Small units (less than ten employees) are surveyed on a sample basis,
using a stratified sampling design such that all types of economic
activities are selected.
