Employment:
Employed are all persons aged 15 years and over who during the reference week performed some paid or unpaid some work
for at least one hour, as well as unpaid family workers and persons who were not working but who had jobs or businesses from which they were temporarily absent because of illness, bad weather, holiday, labour-management dispute, etc.
Also included in the totals are:
- full- and part-time workers seeking other work during the reference period;
- full- and part-time students working full- or part-time;
- persons who performed some work during the reference week while being either retired and receiving a pension; or were registered as job seekers at an employment office or receiving unemployment benefits;
- private domestic servants;
- paid apprentices and trainees.
Excluded are persons engaged in production of goods for their own household (painting, repairing, housework, etc.).
Unemployment:
Unemployed are considered to be persons aged 15 years and over who, during the reference week, did not work for pay or profit, were actively looking for work during the last four weeks prior to the survey and were available to start work in the two weeks following the survey.
