  • Type of work (occupation) of job sought, with 72 groups distinguished. Links to ISCO-88 have been established (minor groups level);
  • Name and address of present or previous employer or work place;
  • Type of business (industry) of present/previous employer/ workplace, with three groups distinguished. (ISIC, rev.3 is used, but NACE, rev.1 will be used shortly);
  • Previous registrations with the agency/service;
  • Other: experience in previous work place; additional occupation; foreign language skills; driving license/ Passport number; social situation (disabled, affected by terrorism, etc.); marital status; unemployment duration; sought wage; sector; type of work (permanent or seasonal, etc.); location (home or abroad).

    4.Criteria used for inclusion of a person in the registers (R) and/or the statistics of unemployed persons (S):

  • Being without work (R) and (S);
  • Seeking work (every applicant is registered regardless of current employment status) (R) and (S);
  • Availability for work (availability to commence work on the date specified by an employer) (R) and (S);
  • Age (lower limit: 15 years; no upper limit) (R) and (S);
  • Citizenship (R) and (S);
  • Being resident in the country (R) and (S);
  • Previously employed (R);
  • Desired duration of employment and/or number of hours of work sought (R) and (S);
  • Previous payment of unemployed insurance contributions (R) and (S).

    5.Criteria used for exclusion of a person from the registers (R) and/or the statistics of unemployed persons (S):

  • Death (R) and (S);
  • Taking up residency abroad (R) and (S);
  • Commencement of a (new) job (placement through TEO) (R) and (S).
  • Commencement of military service (R) and (S);
  • Studying or undergoing training (R) and (S);
  • Failure to contact the agency/service (registrations expire automatically after one year if not renewed) (R) and (S);
  • Refusal of 3 suitable job offers (R) and (S);
  • Receipt of a pension (R) and (S).

    6.Definition of unemployed persons used for the statistics

    Any person of working age (15 years and over) who is able and wishes to work and who, at the time of application to the employment office, is earning less than the minimum wage and who is not yet placed in a job by the employment office.

    7.Updating of the registers

    The registers are updated monthly.

    8.Unemployment rates

    Statistics from the registers are used to obtain unemployment rates. The source of data on employed persons who are part of the denominator of the unemployment rates is the Labour Force Survey (conducted by the State Institute of Statistics).

    Definition of employed persons for this purpose:

    According to Turkish labour law, persons working under a contract of employment in any job for wages.
