The Minimum Wage was established by Order-in-Council No. 97 of 22 October 1973 which covers wage earners and salaried employees of the private sector who are not subject to any specific regulations. It fixes the minimum wage that an employee may receive. When the minimum rate changes, the data are published in the Official Gazette. No estimations or adjustments are made to the data.
As from March 1981 (Act 18.018 of 1981), the series of minimum wages officially replaced the series of taxable agricultural wages which was used in the country since 1953.
