and status in employment.
a) Industry: In order to establish the economic activity, the following
question was asked: "What is the principal activity of the establishment,
firm, business, factory, etc. where you work (or worked, if your employment has
ceased)? (Examples: shirt factory, hospital, ministry, livestock farm, bank,
supermarket, radio/TV studio, shop, etc.)." This was codified using ISIC
Rev. 3 at the level of groups (three digits).
b) Occupation: In order to establish occupation, the following question
was used: "Please indicate your occupation or the type of work you do (or
did, if not currently employed). (Examples: bricklayer (or building worker),
paediatrician, tailor, car mechanic, textile machinery operator, street vendor,
etc.)." This variable was codified using ISCO-88 at the level of primary
groups (four digits).
c) Status in employment: In order to establish this variable, codified in five
groups, the following question was used: "Indicate which of the following
describes you in this work: manager or employer; self-employed; domestic
workers; waged worker (employee, worker, day labourer)".
d) Level of education: In order to establish this, the following question
was used: "Indicate the last lastlevel and course of formal
education". This was codified using 15 levels of the national
