All persons of all ages, excluding foreign diplomats residing in Equatorial Guinea.

6.Concepts and definitions:

(a) Economically active population

It comprises all persons aged 6 years and over who, during the reference week, were either employed or unemployed, according to the definitions given below. Questions on economic activity were asked of a 15.3 per cent sampling of the population. The data on the economically active population and its components (employment and unemployment) were tabulated only in respect of persons aged between 6 and 64 years. Members of the armed forces are excluded from the definition. Also excluded are working students with a part-time job and students seeking work.

(b) Employment

Considered as employed are all persons who worked during the reference week. For this purpose, persons were asked what they did during the week preceding the census day.

It is reported that the following categories are included:

  1. employed persons who are temporarily absent from work;
  2. seasonal or occasional workers.
Neither of these categories can be identified separately.

(c) Unemployment

Considered as unemployed are all persons who, during the reference week, were without work and seeking work. The questions used to determine if the person was unemployed are Were you seeking work and have you been previously employed? and Were you seeking work for the first time?.

7.Classifications used:

Both employed persons and unemployed persons previously employed are classified by industry and by occupation.

(a) Industry

Based on the question: What is the line of business of the firm or enterprise where you worked?. For coding industry, the ISIC-rev.3 was used.

(b) Occupation

To determine occupation group, the questions are What is your occupation? and What is your occupational category?. For coding occupation group, 10 groups of the national classification were used. Links to the ISCO-88 have been established to the major group (1-digit) level.

(c) Status in employment

No classification was made by status in employment.

8.Main differences compared with the previous census:

No major difference.

9.Publication of the census results:

The final results were published in January 1995.

The title of the publication containing the final census data is Características de la Población y de las Viviendas.
