Re (a): The age was defined in terms of age at last birthday.
Re (g): Hours of work relate to usual weekly working hours. Information was also collected on time usually worked (i.e. full-time; part-time; short part-time because of working conditions; short part-time because of health problems or disability).
Re (h): The census also collected information on place of work or school attendance and on frequency of returning to the place of usual residence (i.e. daily; weekly; monthly; seasonally; rarely).
It is reported that the following categories are included:
i) persons doing unpaid work in a family firm or business;
ii) persons engaged in the production of goods for own consumption;
iii) employed persons, temporarily absent from work;
iv) seasonal workers not at work during the off-season;
v) regular members of the armed forces;
vi) persons temporarily laid-off (with formal job attachment).
Only persons belonging to categories (i) and (ii) can be identified separately.
Only employed persons were classified by industry and by status in employment. Unemployed persons are classified by occupation (last job performed or, in the case of first time job seekers, according to school title completed) and by educational level.
The definition of total population differs between the 1991 and the 2001 census: in 1991 total population was based on permanent residence, whereas in 2001 it is based on usual residence.
Persons who have interrupted employment due to military service, imprisonment, penal measures, etc. are considered inactive in the 2001 census, but in 1991 they were considered economically active (employed).
The National Classification of Economic Activities (NKD), which is in complete accordance with NACE-rev.1, has been used for coding industry in the 2001 census whereas the national classification (JKD), with links to ISIC-rev.2 at the major group level, was used in 1991.
The National Classification of Occupations (NKZ), which is in complete accordance with ISCO-88, has been used for coding occupation in the 2001 census whereas the national classification (JKZ), with links to ISCO-68 at the unit group level, was used in 1991.
The census results have been released in a series of publications entitled “Statistical Report 2001 Census”; further volumes on different aspects of the census are in preparation. Some of the results are also published in the “Statistical Yearbook 2003”.
