Re (a): The age is defined in terms of date and year of birth.
Re (g): Hours of work relate to actual hours worked during the reference week.
(b) Employment: Considered as employed are all persons who, during the reference period, worked or had a job but did not work for most of the reference period. The questions used to determine whether a person is to be counted as employed are “What did you do most during the past 12 months?”, “What did you do most during the past week?” and “Did you do any other kind of work at all last week for any length of time, including helping in a family business, street vending or work at home?”.
It is reported that the following categories are included:
i) persons doing unpaid work in family firm or business;
ii) persons engaged in production for own consumption;
iii) persons, temporarily absent from a job;
iv) seasonal or occasional workers;
v) apprentices and trainees;
Persons belonging to categories (i), (iii), (iv) and (v) can be identified separately.
Both employed persons and persons previously employed are classified by industry, by occupation and by status in employment.
(a) Industry: Based on the question “What type of business is/was carried on at your workplace? Please specify in detail”. Links to ISIC-rev.3 have been established at the 4-digit level.
(b) Occupation: Based on the question “What sort of work did you do in your main occupation? Please specify in detail”. Links to ISCO-88 have been established at the 4-digit level.
(d) Level of education: Based on two questions: (i) “What is the “highest level of formal education that you have reached?”. For coding level of formal education the following 11 groups were used: Day-care/Nursery; Pre-school; Infant; Primary grade/Standard (1-3 years); Primary Grade/Standard (4-6 years); Secondary; Pre-University/post Secondary/College; University; None; Don’t know; Not stated; and (ii) “What is the highest certificate, diploma or degree that you have earned?”. For coding the responses to this question 16 groups were used.
The preliminary results of the census have already been published in “Census Tables”.
