Re (a): The age is defined in terms of year of birth.
The economically active population comprises all persons aged 15 years and over who, at the time of the census, were either employed or unemployed, according to the definitions adopted. All members of the armed forces are included in the definition.
See point 6(a). Working students with a part-time job, seasonal workers not at work during the off-season, apprentices and trainees and persons temporarily laid-off (with formal job attachment) are excluded from the definition.
It is reported that the following categories are included:
i) persons doing unpaid work in a family firm or business;
ii) persons engaged in the production of goods for own consumption;
iii) employed persons, temporarily absent from work;
iv) regular members of the armed forces;
v) conscripts on military/civilian service.
Only persons belonging to categories (i) and (iii) are identified separately. Apprentices and trainees, although not covered by the definition of the economically active population, are also identified separately.
See point 6 (a). Future starts, persons temporarily laid-off (without formal job attachment) and discouraged workers are included in the definition while students seeking work are excluded from the definition.
Both employed and unemployed persons are classified by industry, by occupation, by status in employment and by level of education.
For coding industry, 17 categories and 60 divisions of the national classification were used. Links to ISIC Rev. 3 have been established at the division (2-digit) level.
For coding occupation, 91 groups of the national classification were used. Links to ISCO-88 have been established at the major group (1-digit) level.
Status in employment is derived from the classification of the social group.
