part-time job and students seeking work are excluded from the
definition, but members of the armed forces are included.

in fieldwork or trade, are considered as employed. The question
used is: Occupational situation: (1) employed; (2)
unemployed; (3) first-time jobseeker; (4) homemaker; (5)
retired/independent means; (6) student; and (7) other.
It is reported that the following categories are included:
- persons doing unpaid work in family firm or business;
- persons engaged in the production of primary products for own
consumption;
- employed persons, temporarily absent from work;
- seasonal or occasional workers;
- apprentices and trainees.
Only persons belonging to categories (i) and (ii) can be
identified separately.
(c) Unemployment
Considered as unemployed are all persons who had been
previously employed but who, during the reference period, were
without work and seeking work. First-time jobseekers are
identified separately.
7.Classifications used:
Both employed persons and unemployed persons previously employed
are classified by industry, by occupation and by status in
employment.
(a) Industry
Based on the question: Indicate the nature of the activity of
the firm or business. If unable to do so, indicate the full name
of the establishment. For coding industry group, the
ISIC-rev.3 was used to the 2-digit level (60 divisions), with
some modifications as regards recovery activities, an important
component of the informal sector in Chad.
(b) Occupation
Occupation group is based on the current occupation of employed
persons, on the most recent occupation of unemployed persons, and
on the occupation which takes up the largest share of time, in
respect of multiple job holders. Respondents were asked to give
detailed replies, such as: cotton farmer, millet farmer, street
vendor, vendor (oil, fish, vegetables, peanuts, rice, etc.),
stall vendor (shoes, sugar, tea, etc.). For coding occupation,
the ISCO-88 has been used to the sub-major group (2-digit) level.
(c) Status in employment
For coding this variable, six groups were used, namely:
employee; self-employed; employer; family helper; unpaid
apprentice; and other.
