The first edition of Volume 7 of the series Sources and Methods: Labour Statistics was issued in 1993. New or updated descriptions for certain countries were issued in 1999 in Volume 9, a special edition covering transition countries of Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. The series comprises the following volumes:

Volume 3

Volume 4

Volume 5
Total and economically active population, employment and unemployment (population censuses) (Geneva, 1990).
Volume 6
Household income and expenditure surveys (Geneva, 1992).
Volume 7
Strikes and lockouts (Geneva, 1993).

Volume 9
Transition countries (Geneva, 1999).
Volume 10
Estimates and projections of the economically active population 1950-2010 (Geneva, 2000).
The purpose of the series is to document the national practices used in the collection of various types of labour statistics in order to assist users in assessing their suitability for particular needs, as well as evaluating their quality and comparability. The methodological descriptions can consequently be seen as companions to the ILO Year Book of Labour Statistics, the Bulletin of Labour Statistics and the ILO's statistical Web site, http://laborsta.ilo.org.

The descriptions in this section provide methodological information on national statistics of strikes and lockouts. Information about new developments and corrections received in the ILO are introduced regularly in the data base.

The descriptions are produced by the ILO Department of Statistics.
