Empowerment of the Teachers’ Union under FESTU was evident through teachers in Baidoa who undertook a review of the Somali school curriculum. They identified fundamental flaws and informed the Ministry of Education who then reviewed the entire curriculum. The Teachers’ Association also advocated for provision of a contract and fixed salary for teachers in private schools which was duly implemented by the Ministry of Education of South West. This was a sustainable strategy for continued support for trade unions beyond the project period
