- In both countries, Madagascar and Sri Lanka, Better Work`s thematic interventions had an impact beyond the usually targeted garment industry. In Madagascar, the programme started to engage with raffia suppliers feeding into the garment and accessories sector towards the end of the project and will continue to do so until the end of 2024. As part of the new EU-funded project "Better Work Madagascar, Phase 2: For Fairer, More Resilient, and Sustainable Supply Chains", the programme will target textile and support adapting tools and approaches in the agribusiness value chains, with other ILO units.
In Sri Lanka, the work on OSH had clear spill-over effects on other sectors as well since national capacity was built to strengthen OSH requirements and OSH management systems. OSH master trainers trained by the project engaged in the tea sector, amongst others. As part of the new DFAT-funded thematic initiative, the programme will continue to target the RMG sector, including suppliers beyond tier 1.

- 3. Explore the possibility of including other sectors than garments in the BW Programmes or to enhance their inclusion in other projects as many stakeholders in Madagascar and Sri Lanka suggested. Examples are raffia and agri-business in Madagascar and the construction and plantation sectors in Sri Lanka. This can be further explored with BW Global.
