- In Madagascar, the new EU-funded initiative will work at enterprise, sectoral, and national levels to enhance the competitiveness of Madagascar’s export sectors while improving working conditions and reducing the environmental footprint of the targeted industries. It will also contribute to the formalisation and structuring of the textile and agribusiness value chains, particularly beyond tier-1 suppliers. The project builds on the recommendations and lessons learned from the Better Work pilot project, as well as from ILO’s extensive experience in other countries, including through the implementation of ILO’s SCORE5 (productivity and resource efficiency improvement) programmes and collaboration with different other ILO departments.
Similarly, in Sri Lanka the new DFAT-funded thematic intervention will target RMG suppliers, including those beyond tier-1, which predominantly operate in the informal - and therefore more vulnerable - sector. Moreover, the specific objective of this thematic intervention is to strengthen workplace inclusion and the employability of people with disabilities.
